MISSION STATEMENT

At Guys & Dolls Hairkuts Hair Salon our mission is attaining 100% Total Client Satisfaction by delivering the best possible salon experience available.  Our stylists are the heart of our business -  they are a tightly knit group committed to providing the absolute highest level of hair service possible.   They keep 'the blade sharpened' and remain on the 'cutting edge' through ongoing education in both the latest techniques and the newest products. Through client education on hair care and the appropriate professional products, we try to ensure that in three weeks our clients look as good as the day they were here. Guys & Dolls Hair Salon's attitude is reflected in our salon: spacious, bright, contemporary and lively.  We go the extra yard to maintain a clean, chic, gender-neutral ambience that offers amenities such as satellite radio, WiFi, Barnie's coffee, snacks, a huge magazine assortment, a retail store and boutique, and even a choice of red or white wine (if requested).

We keep the tone at a fun, casual yet intimate level - the client's approval of this philosophy is evidenced by their smiles, laughs, and return visits. We are not a multi-million dollar facility nor do we pretend to be one. Comfortable in our own skin, we find no need to be pretentious, condescending or snobby.  We are an all-around salon serving a widely diverse population. From student's to seniors, whether it be a bang-cut or a complex color correction, everyone receives the same level of care and attention.  We love our clients, all of them.  We are blessed with a talented, dedicated, staff and a beautiful space to work within.  Total Client satisfaction is our primary goal.

History

Established in 1985, Guys & Doll Hair Salon was founded by Linda Lafrato and Dana Mullin in 1986 when the girls moved into a run down hair & wig shop on the corner of Oakland Park & Federal.  They cleaned the place up and began what would turn out to be a multi-decade legacy of giving back to the community.  They serviced cancer patients, restoring their dignity which was wiped away by the ravaging side effects of chemotherapy & radiation…
Word got out about the quality of Linda & Dana’s work and soon the “ladies” from Pure Platinum Gentleman’s Club were getting their hair done at Guys & Dolls Hair Salon as well.  A bar named Little Jim’s brought in an influx of local male clients and the buzz was created.  Business flourished from all segments of society.  In 1989 the girls discovered a location on Sunrise & A1A that was 3 times the size of the Oakland Park location and they invested every last nickel they could beg, borrow, or barter to get started.  It did not come easy.  The girls were constantly giving back to the community that supported them – they raised money for Center One and other HIV organizations by organizing monthly Cut-A-Thons… they gave to Father Bill’s church so he could secure basic human necessities that were so badly needed in San Padro Sulla, Honduras.  Their friend Dee Dee would take year end hair products to the kids and help them with hygiene.  Linda & Dana also took care of the run-away kids at Covenant House by giving them free haircuts once a week on Tuesdays so they would be presentable and might be able to get a job.  They met the King of Sudan in 1987 when both he and Jimmy Carter were in the salon making  deals – who would believe it!  The girls sponsored a boat (that belonged to Steve Shiller) in the Annual Fort Lauderdale Boat Parade.  There were all the annual Christmas parties thrown in appreciation of the loyal clients.  Many of their best supporters are now dead and just memories.  They met Janet Reno and had the SOL women’s basketball team at the salon for a party.  Local artists Jamie Spilman, Chooch and Stan Street bartered for haircuts.   But that’s all history.
The tragedy of 9/11 set the local economy, including Guys & Dolls Hair Salon, into a tail spin – all their wonderful tourists from all over the world ceased traveling to the USA.  There were false promises made to the girls from people who claimed to have an interest in skin care and holistic methods which led to a bad investment in unneeded, costly equipment, and finally in 2004 they did not renew their lease. There was one glimmer of light going on at this time – Dana was blessed to give birth to Duncan Louis Lafrato-Mullin.  The team, including Francisco who joined in 1999, moved to the Sands Harbor Hotel in 2004 as Hairkuts.com, a Salon. In 2006  Linda was recruited by a Fortune 100 company as a manager in the Florida panhandle region.  After  25 years as the managing owners of Guys & Dolls, the girls & Duncan left for Panama City - Francisco was now handed the torch  to be in charge.  But he was not alone.  With Francisco acting as Managing Owner and Jonathan in charge of all other activities not involving the use of shears, Guys & Dolls Hair Salon opened at it’s current Cypress Creek location in August 2006 and by the grace of God is still open.  The guys put together a first-rate staff and that brings the history current.
